This report, \u201cForecasting PV Installed Capacity in Japan 2025 to 2040,\u201d presents the latest long-term forecast for PV installed capacity in Japan toward FY 2040, based on the projected share of PV power generation in the energy mix outlined in the Seventh Strategic Energy Plan approved by the Cabinet in February 2025. The forecast provides a comprehensive analysis of market trends, policy developments, and technological advancements.<\/p>\n

The report provides forecasts of PV installed capacity over the next 16 years under two scenarios, taking into account anticipated changes in society, the economy, policies, markets, products, technologies, and prices.
\nThe first scenario, the \u201cBusiness as Usual (BAU) scenario,\u201d assumes the achievement of the FY 2040 target set forth in the Seventh Strategic Energy Plan, under which PV is expected to account for 23% of the energy mix.
\nThe second scenario, the \u201cAccelerated (ACC) scenario,\u201d assumes that Japan keeps pace with the global transition toward carbon neutrality and that the deployment environment improves substantially, with PV expected to account for 29% of the energy mix by FY 2040.<\/p>\n <\/div>\n

Based on the \u201cOutput Control Simulation of Photovoltaic Power Generation to 2040 (First Edition, 2016 – Sixth Edition, 2023),\u201d the report has been made consistent with the target values and planned status toward carbon neutrality in 2050 for the amount of PV power introduced, wind power introduced, grid enhancement, and storage batteries introduced, etc. In addition, other assumptions were completely revised, and the overall simulation calculation was re-calculated.<\/p>\n
