Japan Solar Update: No.43(May 1 ~ 5, 2023)
In April 2021, Daiwa House Industry completed the “Funabashi Grand Oasis” in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture as the first town in Japan to supply virtually 100% renewable energy electricity, covering from construction work to living.
PV system for Funabashi Grand Oasis – utilizing virtually 100% renewable energy electricity for both houses and commercial facilities
This is a large-scale mixed-use development project that includes construction of condominiums for sale, rental housing, detached houses, and commercial facilities. In detached houses, condominiums, and rental housing, only renewable energy electricity is supplied for electricity used by tenants, common areas and street lights, etc., as well as for a power source for construction work in residential blocks and commercial facilities.
Of the 394 renewable energy power plants (ca. 446 MW) managed and operated by the Daiwa House Industy Group across Japan, the renewable energy electricity to be supplied to Funabashi Grand Oasis will mainly be generated by the Suganuma Hydroelectric Power Plant (ca. 2 MW) in Hida City, Gifu Prefecture. Furthermore, in the condominiums, the power stored in the lithium-ion storage battery from rooftop PV systems is discharged and used for electricity in the common areas to automatically shave the peak demand of the entire condominium, during the hours when the electricity consumption increases. In the event of a power outage, a mechanism is adopted to supply electricity from the lithium-ion storage battery to specific devices. In all detached houses, a management system that effectively controls the PV systems, lithium-ion batteries, and other equipment has been introduced, and efficient energy consumption has been made possible by power interchange among detached houses.
