Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced Fiscal 2023 Supplementary Budget Draft and establishment of the  “Project to Support the Introduction of Storage Batteries for Home Use and Commercial/Industrial Use.

The proposed supplemental budget for FY2023 was approved by the Cabinet on November 10, 2023 and submitted to the National Assembly on November 20, 2023.

It is expected to be implemented immediately after deliberation and voting by the Diet.

As for subsidies related to photovoltaic power generation and storage batteries, the “Project to Support the Introduction of Distributed Energy Resources such as Household Storage Batteries” has been newly established, and together with the expansion of the introduction of storage batteries for the grid, storage batteries will be installed everywhere from power generation to the end users to play a part in the stable supply of electricity in preparation for the increase in solar and wind generated power. It is expected to play a role in the stable supply of electricity in preparation for the increase in solar- and wind-generated power.

Furthermore, an increase in the “Demand-driven Photovoltaic Power Generation Promotion Project” is included to support the introduction of off-site power plants, which is necessary to expand the introduction of PV power generation. In METI’s program, the “Support for accelerating the nationwide introduction of Renewable Energy Installations such as Zero-Initial-Cost PV Power Generation” has been included to support the expansion of the introduction of on-site solar power generation such as PPAs. Table 1 shows the projects related to PV and storage batteries in METI under the FY2023 supplementary budget, and Table 2 shows the projects related to PV and storage batteries in MOE under the FY2023 supplementary budget.
