Measures to deal with theft of copper conductor cables in photovoltaic installations

Japan Solar Update: No.82 (Feb 5 ~9, 2024)

Theft of copper conductor cables from PV Power Plants is becoming increasingly serious.

As a countermeasure against this problem Sompo Japan Insurance Inc. and SOMPO Risk Management Inc. have launched a service to introduce Raku Shira Nuka Aluminum Cable, an aluminum conductor cable developed and manufactured by Furukawa Electric and Furukawa Electric Industrial Cable, to customers who have had copper conductor cables of their PV systems stolen. Furukawa Electric Industrial Cable provides consulting services to installers. The use of Raku Raku Aluminum Cable is expected to prevent theft, as the number of resales tends to be low and the cable can easily serve as a clue to catch thieves. Since it is lighter than copper wire, it is expected to reduce the workload of on-site workers, and its stable supply will lead to early restoration of PV power plants.
