Japan Solar Update: No.84 (Feb 19 ~ 23, 2024)

Utsunomiya City of Tochigi Prefecture compiled a draft to revise the Utsunomiya City Action Plan for Measures against Global Warming (measures to promote local decarbonization) (FY 2024 – FY 2030).

The city set a new target of achieving 831 MW of PV installed capacity in the entire city by FY 2030, more than triple compared to FY 2019. The city aims to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by promoting the transition of automobiles owned by its citizens and business operators to electric vehicles (EVs), as well as the replacement of buses and other local transportation to EVs, and also by calling for action to use public transportation. As a new measure for the citizens, the city will reinforce its consultation services for the subsidies concerning the decarbonization of houses and also promote the PPA scheme which PPA business operators will take charge of PV installation. Through a synergistic effect together with national and prefectural measures, the city expects that the new measure will help promote the transition of ca. 4,200 vehicles from gasoline-fueled cars to EVs as well as PV installation to ca. 46,000 houses.
