Japan Solar Update: No.114 (Sept 16 ~ 20, 2024)
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) published approved and commissioned PV capacity under the FIT program as of March 31, 2024. The commissioned capacity from April 2023 to March 2024 was 3,096 MW.

- The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) published that as of March 31 20224, the cumulative approved capacity was 74.5 GW, up 0.3 GW from the end of December 2023, despite the continued cancellations of certifications under METI’s approval cancellation system, and the cumulative capacity was 68.2 GW, up 0.7 GW from the end of December 2023.The overall operation rate increased to 92%.
- For the quarter from January to March period of 2024, by capacity range, commissioned capacity of less than 10 kW PV projects was the largest with 371MW followed by 2 MW or more projects with 137 MW, 1-2 MW projects with 71MW, and 10-50 kW projects with 46MW
- In FY2023, commissioned capacity decreased by 33% y/y to 3,096 MW (AC), with a significant decrease in large-scale projects
