Japan Solar Update: No.120 (Oct 28 ~ Nov 1, 2024)
<Key points>
- As of June 30, 2024, applications for connection assessment of approx. 60GX of grid-scale storage battery projects have been accepted nationwide and approx. 4.5GW of those applied for connection contracts, nearly quadrupling or quintupling the figures as of May 31, 2023
- As an additional interim measure for early interconnection, an operation (charge restriction contract) that permits grid connection without strengthening the grid, on the premise that it is agreed to restrict charging in a specific cross-section
Status of applications for connection assessment and connection contracts of grid-scale storage batteries (as of June 30, 2024)
- Applications for connection assessment nationwide: 11.89 GW (as of the end of May 2023) → 59.66 GW (as of June 30, 2024)
- Applications for connection contracts nationwide: 1.12 GW (as of the end of May 2023) → 4.50 GW (as of March 31, 2024)
Ideal Connection rules for the forward power flow side of grid-scale storage batteries
On the reverse power side, a non-firm type of connection is applied. On the forward power flow side, if the operating capacity of the grid is expected to be exceeded, it is necessary to strengthen the grid in the connection assessment, and there is an issue that it takes time to connect to the grid
Additional interim measure for early interconnection of grid-scale storage batteries
*Grid enhancement introduction of N-1 charge stop device and charge control device
It is planned to continue to deepen its studies on the connection rules on the forward power flow side of grid-scale storage batteries, including connection rules that do not secure grid capacity
