Japan Solar Update: No.135 (Feb 10 ~ 14, 2025)
XSOL Co., Ltd. will take measures to address the use of aluminum cables and installation of signboards during the construction of new PV power plants, as part of efforts to combat the increasing theft damages at PV power plants in recent years.
The company offers measures against cable theft at solar power plants by using aluminum cables instead of copper cables for construction and installing signs to promote the use of aluminum cables. Currently, 51.8% of metal theft incidents involve copper, while only 3.2% involve aluminum, suggesting that the thefts primarily target high-value copper cables. Since aluminum cables cost approximately one-sixth of copper cables, using aluminum cables and promoting their use is considered an effective deterrent.
XSOL will provide support against theft damages through a PV power plant evaluation service, along with a plan that includes five years of disaster compensation, covering theft incidents.
