Japan Solar Update: No.146 (Apr 28 ~ May 2, 2025)
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) announced the unit price of the surcharge and the purchase price of renewable energy for FY2025 under the FIT and FIP systems. The surcharge price is set at 3.98 yen/kWh starting from the usage period in April 2025.
<Key points>
-
- To accelerate the deployment of rooftop PV power generation, an initial investment support scheme will be introduced starting in the second half of FY 2025 (from October 2025 onward). The purchase prices for <10 kW PV systems are 24 yen/kWh (16.1 cents/kWh)(up to 4 years) and 8.3 yen/kWh (5.5 cents/kWh)(5-10 years). Those for ≥ 10 kW rooftop PV systems are 19 yen/kWh (12.7 cents/kWh)(up to 5 years) and 8.3 yen/kWh (5.5 cents/kWh)(6-20 years)
- The unit surcharge for FY 2025 increased by 0.49 yen/kWh (0.33 cents/kWh) year on year to 3.98 yen/kWh (2.66 cents/kWh). Although the increase in purchase costs, etc. was small, the unit surcharge increased due to the decrease in avoidable costs, etc.
