Japan Solar Update: No.164 (Sept 1 ~ 5, 2025)

Kanagawa Prefecture will begin five demonstration projects utilizing next-generation photovoltaic (PV) cells at the end of September 2025. Lightweight and flexible solar technologies such as chalcopyrite and perovskite cells will be deployed across public transportation, disaster prevention facilities, government buildings, and tourist destinations.

Kanagawa Chuo Kotsu: PV modules on Bus Rooftops Buses operating in the Hiratsuka depot area will be equipped with chalcopyrite solar cells on their rooftops. The generated electricity will support onboard air conditioning and other power needs.

Nissan Motor: Photovoltaics-Powered Dealership Windows At the R1 Higashi-Totsuka dealership in Yokohama, calcopyrite solar cells will be installed on windows and pillars. The generated power will be used for in-store displays, smartphone charging, and vending machines, serving as a model for environmentally friendly dealerships.

PXP: Showcasing Solar at Prefectural Facilities PV panels will be installed at the FUN+TECH LABO in Sagamihara and in the corridors of Kanagawa Prefectural Government offices. The electricity will power streetlights, security cameras, and indoor appliances, while also providing residents an opportunity to experience the technology firsthand.

Baysan: Solar panels for Disaster Relief Tents At the Kanagawa Prefectural Disaster Prevention Center in Atsugi, perovskite solar cells will be used in emergency relief air tents. The generated power will charge batteries and provide lighting, supporting electricity supply during disasters.

Macnica: Solar Demonstration at Hakone Stations Next-generation solar cells will be installed at Hakone-Yumoto and Sounzan Stations, popular tourist gateways. The electricity will be used for model train demonstrations, lighting, and battery charging, showcasing solar innovation to visitors.

These demonstration projects offer a valuable opportunity to experience renewable energy in daily life. From tourism to disaster prevention and transportation, the potential of next-generation solar cells is set to expand across the community.
