PV module shipments in Japan in 2025

Japan Solar Update: No.192 (Mar 16 ~ 20, 2026)

The Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association (JPEA) has released PV module shipment statistics for the October–December 2025 quarter (FY2025 Q3). The data indicates moderate growth in Japan’s PV market, led by expansion in the utility-scale and residential segments, while commercial shipments declined.

<Key points>

  • The Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association (JPEA) released the PV module shipment statistics for the quarter from October to December 2025 (third quarter of FY 2025), revealing the total annual PV module shipment volume for 2025
  • Total module shipments in 2025 increased 6% year on year (yoy) to 5,945 MW, while domestic shipments decreased by 6% to 5,910 MW
  • By application, the shipment for residential applications grew steadily, rising 18% yoy to 1,598 MW, and the shipment for commercial applications declined 14% to 1,929 MW, whereas the shipment for utility-scale applications largely increased by 20% yoy to 2,382 MW
  • This suggests that projects approved under the former FIT program that had not yet commenced operation have started coming online, and that development of non-FIT PV projects – such as those under PPAs – is also progressing
