Japan Solar Update:  No.13  (August 1~5, 2022)

The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) published that as of March 31, 2022, cumulative approved capacity of PV projects under the FIT program was 77,056 MW, or 2,615,961 projects and cumulative commissioned capacity was 60,536 MW or 2,449,200 projects*. Compared to December 31, 2021, approved capacity increased by 705 MW and commissioned capacity increased by 1,193MW, brining commissioning rate (rate of start of operation) by capacity to 79%. Of these, the commissioning rate of ≥ 2 MW PV projects continues to rise, although it remained at 62%.

For the quarter from January to March 2022, by capacity range, commissioned capacity of ≥ 2 MW (extra- high voltage) PV projects was the largest with 543 MW or 27 PV projects followed by < 10 kW PV projects with 244 MW, or 42,765 PV projects, 10 – < 50 kW (low voltage) with 172 MW, or 3,929 projects, 1 – < 2 MW PV projects with 120 MW, or 76 PV projects, 50 – < 500 MW with 72 MW, or 253 PV projects, and 500 – < 1 MW PV projects with 43 MW, or 56 PV projects.

Commissioned capacity from April 2021 to March 2022 was 4,584 MW.
