The National Institute of Technology and Evaluation (NITE) has released its analysis result of PV panel breakage accidents. Electric Facilities The results of the accident analysis for the period from 2018 to 2021, using the accident information database for electric facilities, clarified that the total damage caused by snow accumulation exceeded 30 MW in the past four years.

As damage to the mounting system is confirmed in about 80% of accidents caused by icy snow,  NITE recommends enhanced inspection and snow removal as a means of preventing accidents by providing examples such as “installation of monitoring cameras,” “increased on-site inspection work,” “contracting with snow removal companies,” and “introduction of dedicated snow removal equipment for the top surface of panels.
