Overview:

Panasonic Corporation started operation of H2 KIBOU FIELD, a demonstration facility for the RE100 Solution on April 15, 2022, which uses a combination of pure hydrogen fuel cells and PV modules for in-house power generation to cover the energy consumed in its business activities with 100% renewable energy.

Panel PV System Panasonic H2 KIBOU FIELD Overview

The company installed the demonstration facility equipped with 99 pure hydrogen fuel cells (5 kW each), PV modules, and lithium-ion storage batteries at its site in Kusatsu Town, Shiga Prefecture. With H2 KIBOU FIELD providing all the electricity used in the manufacturing section of the fuel cell factory, the company will develop and verify technologies for optimal power supply and demand operation through the combination of the three types of cells.

The facility plans the power generation pattern by measuring of the amount of PV electricity in accordance with the power demand based on the factory’s electricity demand data, weather forecast data, and monitoring information on equipment in operation using its unique EMS.Furthermore, by linking multiple pure hydrogen fuel cells (5 kW each), it will be possible to operate equipment to generate electricity or shut down according to the amount of electricity required, while increasing the amount of electricity with a layout that matches the building and the site. Maintenance will be possible without stopping operations of the factory.

Through the demonstration, the company aims to accumulate know-how and data related to energy management, including the operation of pure hydrogen fuel cells, to build a track record, and to commercialize the RE100 Solution, which is desinged to provide renewable energy-based electricity for business activities through in-house power generation.
